100 Things I Love About The Movies

Original credit for the idea goes to Beau Kaelin, who’s directive read:

Rather than posting your 100 favorite films (which has been done and overdone), you simply post your favorite things about movies. I dig the concept, because instead of obsessing over whether the films you put on a list are “objectively good enough” to put on said list, you simply jot down 100 moments/lines/visuals that have made a lasting impression on you or sneak their way into running gags between you and your friends.

At first I thought this would be excruciating to compile. Then I decided that I would just do the first 100 things that came to mind, because really what I love about the movies is everything. So here’s the list.

seriously amen to this list. brilliant. for example, duckie is golden. that umbrella scene in little women is beyond romantic goodness gracious. I read that book twice within the span of two years or something like that in elementary school and saw both film adaptations. it’s so great. jo was always my favorite character. and marlon brando! I have a similar photograph in postcard form on my wall. he is phenomenal. what an actor. he had such a presence and such talent

  11. What a great list. I’m inspired to work on one of my own. Love that you mention Griffin Dunne in After Hours – I still think After Hours and King of Comedy are Scorsese’s best films (well, maybe Taxi Driver just edges them but still…After Hours is criminally underrated).

  12. I really enjoyed your list — several made me smile and nod in agreement, especially the telephone scene in It’s a Wonderful Life, the score of The Third Man, Lew Ayres as Ned in Holiday, and the entire cast of Virginia Woolf. Very enjoyable.
