“Gravity” and “12 Years a Slave” tie at PGA Awards

2014_PGA

With Gravity and 12 Years a Slave tying for the top spot at the Producers Guild Awards last night, we see the first tie in the PGA’s history. It also might be a much-needed wrench in American Hustle‘s march to Oscar (thank goodness). I saw one person tweet last night that they thought this was the tightest race since 2000 – which was the year GladiatorTraffic and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon all were pushing for Oscar gold (and in the end, they all had four awards before Gladiator took Best Picture, ending with five awards). 2000 was actually the first year I’d seen all the Best Picture nominees (for bittersweet reasons), so I will always love that race. My feeling is 12 Years A Slave will take Best Picture and Alfonso Cuarón takes Best Director for Gravity, but we’ll see after the DGA awards.
