Iron Man 2 Coming To DVD and Blu-ray

Iron Man 2 is coming to DVD and Blu-ray on September 28th. I really loved this film. It had such a great ensemble cast. I thought it was just as exciting and solid as the first film. You can pre-oder the film here.

With A Little Help From My Friends

So as many of you know I’d been unemployed for quite some time and only recently got a job substitute teaching. Unfortunately, that a) only pays for my bills so far and b) I don’t even get paid until October some time. That being said I am pretty strapped for cash.

And at the worst time possible, as The Thin Red Line is being released on Criterion Collection DVD and Blu-Ray on the September 28th.

So what I am trying to do is refer as many products from my Amazon astore in order to get enough credit to buy it. This is one of my top-ten favorite films (and has been mentioned on this site multiple times). How the astore works is you click the link and it takes you to all the categories I’ve set up to correspond with various posts I’ve made. It also lets you see your very own Amazon wishlist, so if you’ve been meaning to buy something on your wishlist you can do so through my astore and I’ll still get referral credit. Basically, you can shop just like normal, only you get to help me out at the same time!

Here’s all the astore categories I have:

Your own Wishlist should show up in the bottom right hand side of your screen (you may have to scroll down a little).

I really, really appreciate your readership and your help. Just look at this magnificent film:

The DVD Collection of a Film Awards Fanatic

I’ve decided it’s time I share with my dutiful readers my beloved DVD collection. A few things to start with; firstly, I organize my DVDs chronologically by when they were first released in theaters. I definitely have the years right and try to have the order of films within that year as close to right as possible (I’m not 100% anal about it). I’ve done it this way ever since I first had a pitiful DVD collection of about 10 films. Now it’s just under 300 and I still keep it that way. Before you ask, yes I can find any DVD I have at any given time. I think about films based on the year they come out and thus I organize them that way. It often confuses the casual film watcher, but I know there’s at least a few of you out there who would have no trouble finding something in my collection. Secondly, this collection contains classic films, indie, art house, guilty pleasures, childhood favorites, things people bought me that I’d never seen before and a handful of films I haven’t actually seen but saw in the $3 bin at Big Lots and thought “what the hell?” Thirdly, like I said some of these films were gifts I hadn’t asked for, some are gifts I had, some are from Amazon, A LOT are from Amoeba/Rasputin in Berkeley/San Francisco and most recently a lot have come from the $5 bin at Wal-Mart and the $3 bin at Big Lots. I cannot say enough about the $3 bin at Big Lots. I’ve found both guilty pleasures and amazing classics in that bin. I highly recommend it. Lastly, there are so many films that I love that I don’t own. For proof, I submit to you my Amazon wish list (well, one of five) that contains roughly 150 films. “On with the list!” you say. And on with the list I shall go. But first, here’s a crappy camera phone photo of the film part of my DVD collection. (I’m going to list my TV on DVD, though I won’t post a picture)

A Single Man comes to Blu-Ray And DVD July 6th

Fashion designer Tom Ford’s directorial debut A Single Man is a beautifully shot and acted story of love, loss and life. It earned Colin Firth his first Oscar nomination, as well as many other awards and nominations. It finally comes to DVD on July 6th, and if you’ve yet to see it you really need to. I know a few people who saw it thought it was overly glossy and lacked depth, but I don’t agree with that summation. It is glossy, that much is true, but it’s also one of the more beautiful and thoughtful ruminations of the agony of living I’ve ever seen. You can pre-order the film here.

The Thin Red Line to be released on Criterion DVD and Blu-Ray

This is so exciting! Terrence Malick is my favorite director and The Thin Red Line is one of my Top Ten Favorite movies of all time. The news leaked a few weeks ago, but I was waiting for the cover artwork to get released before writing about it. I actually thought Fox or someone would release a ten-year anniversary edition in 2008 but that never happened. I may already own the crap Fox War Classics version of this film on DVD, but I also own two versions of Malick’s The New World. so I have no qualms about buying this again.

DVD/Blu-Ray specs after the cut.
