Summer Under The Stars: August 2016 in Films
August was Summer Under The Stars at TCMHQ and I watched SO MANY MOVIES. A lot of what I watched was revisiting old favorites starring Janet Gaynor, Jean Harlow, Jean Arthur, and more incredible stars. But I also watched several new-to-me films (including five featuring Robert Montgomery!). I also saw a lot of great film in theaters and a few non-TCM gems. Overall, August was a great month of viewing. As always, a full list of what I watched and a few favorites can be found after the cut.
Movie Quote of the Day – Impromptu, 1991 (dir. James Lapine)
George Sand: I am not full of virtues and noble qualities. I love. That is all. But I love strongly, exclusively, steadfastly.
Movie Quote of the Day – Husbands and Wives, 1992 (dir. Woody Allen)
Michael: I’m over-anxious because I like you a lot.
Sally: Oh, dear. Michael, what can I say? I haven’t made love in such a long time. My marriage, I told you, was dead. For years. I don’t know why. Yes, I do. It’s the Second Law of Thermodynamics: sooner or later everything turns to shit. That’s my phrasing, not the Encyclopedia Britannica.
First Trailer For Woody Allen’s “To Rome With Love”
I’m not sure how I feel about the name change (I really liked the title Nero Fiddled), but I am so excited for this film. Trailer after the cut.
