2017 in Films: 365 Days, 628 Films, and a Year Full of Cinema!

2017 was quite the film (and TV!) watching year for me. I got really obsessed with a lot of things and I watched more films this year than I have in a few years. After the cut you can see all 628 new-to-me films I watched (and you can read my monthly breakdowns here). This year was filled with a lot highlights both in terms of what I watched, but also places I visited and people I met. Here’s hoping 2018 will be even better!

December 2017 in Films

I had a pretty long vacation so I filled it with way too many films (that’s not true; there’s no such thing as too many films!) Before I get to December, do check out my Favorite Fifteen Films of 2017 here and know that my year long round up will be posted tomorrow. Back to December, due to this prolonged vacation and access to FilmStruck and TCM, I watched a whopping 77 new-to-me films this month! 17 of those films were directed by Shirley Clarke and 31 of those films featured the inimitable Lana Turner. It was a great month.

August 2017 in Films

This month was mostly filled with Summer Under The Stars, but I also caught up on a  bunch of Sam Shepard films, and went to Noir City Chicago. As always, everything I watched is under the cut.

Movie Quote of the Day – Green Dolphin Street, 1947 (dir. Victor Saville)

Marianne Patourel: These figures prove that at the present cost of operation, a steamboat will eat up all its profits
Octavius Patourel: I still say, it’s most unseemly for a young woman to know so much about the shipping business.
Marianne Patourel: Oh, Papa, you’ll be using steamships in eight or ten years. But, by that time, you’ll be retired and I’ll be running the business.
Octavius Patourel: By that time, you’ll be married to some smart young fellow who will carry on in my place.
Marianne Patourel: If I ever marry, it won’t be because the groom is a good businessman.
Octavius Patourel: Marianne, my dear, sometimes you shock me.
Marianne Patourel: Of course I do. I’m bold and scheming and sometimes I think I’m not quite nice.

Movie Quote of the Day – The Postman Always Rings Twice, 1946 (dir. Tay Garnett)

Cora Smith: It’s too bad Nick took the car.
Frank Chambers: Even if it was here we couldn’t take it, unless we’d want to spend the night in jail. Stealing a man’s wife, that’s nothing, but stealing a man’s car, that’s larceny.
