Movie Quote of the Day – Five Easy Pieces, 1970 (dir. Bob Rafelson)

Bobby: I’d like a plain omelet, no potatoes – tomatoes instead, a cup of coffee and toast.
Waitress: No substitutions.
Bobby: What do you mean, you don’t have any tomatoes?
Waitress: Only what’s on the menu. You can have a #2 – a plain omelet, comes with cottage fries and rolls.
Bobby: Yeah, I know what it comes with, but it’s not what I want.
Waitress: I’ll come back when you make up your mind.
Bobby: Wait a minute, I have made up my mind. I’d like a plain omelet, no potatoes on the plate, a cup of coffee and a side order of wheat toast.
Waitress: I’m sorry, we don’t have any side orders of toast. I can bring you an english muffin or a coffee roll.
Bobby: What do you mean you don’t make side orders of toast? You make sandwiches, don’t you?
Waitress: Would you like to talk to the manager?
Bobby: You’ve got bread and a toaster of some kind?
Waitress: I don’t make the rules.
Bobby: Okay, I’ll make it as easy for you as I can. I’d like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce and a cup of coffee.
Waitress: A #2, chicken salad sand. Hold the butter, the lettuce, the mayonnaise, and a cup of coffee. Anything else?
Bobby: Yeah, now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich, and you haven’t broken any rules.
Waitress: You want me to hold the chicken, huh?
Bobby: I want you to hold it between your knees.

Oscar Vault Monday – Roman Holiday, 1953 (dir. William Wyler)

This was one of the first films I ever saw. Between this film and Sabrina (my favorite Audrey film) for the longest time the only classic actresses I gave a hoot about were Audrey and Vivien Leigh in Gone With The Wind. I’m talking about me at the age of 6 and 7. Also, because of this film I fell hard for Gregory Peck. He is so gorgeous and so charming in this film. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning three: Best B&W Art Direction, Best B&W Cinematography, Best B&W Costume Design (won), Best Film Editing, Best Writing – Screenplay, Best Writing – Motion Picture Story (won), Best Supporting Actor Eddie Albert, Best Actress Audrey Hepburn (won), Best Director and Best Picture. The other films up for Best Picture that year were Julius Caesar, The Robe, Shane and winner From Here To Eternity.

Movie Quote of the Day – Singles, 1992 (dir. Cameron Crowe)

Cliff: Hey.
Janet: Hey. Going out?
Cliff: Yep. You?
Janet: Yeah.
Cliff: That’s a very nice hat, and I don’t mean that in an Eddie Haskell kind of way.
Janet: Thanks.
[beat]
[Janet sneezes]
Cliff: Bless you.
Janet: Thank you.
[beat]
Cliff: Does everybody go through this?
Janet: No, I think, just us.

Movie Quote of the Day – Blade Runner, 1982 (dir. Ridley Scott)

Roy Batty: I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time. . .like tears in rain. . .Time to die.

Movie Quote of the Day – After Hours, 1985 (dir. Martin Scorsese)

Paul Hackett: I just wanted to leave, you know, my apartment. Maybe meet a nice girl. And now I’ve got to die for it!

100 Things I Love About The Movies

Original credit for the idea goes to Beau Kaelin, who’s directive read:

Rather than posting your 100 favorite films (which has been done and overdone), you simply post your favorite things about movies. I dig the concept, because instead of obsessing over whether the films you put on a list are “objectively good enough” to put on said list, you simply jot down 100 moments/lines/visuals that have made a lasting impression on you or sneak their way into running gags between you and your friends.

At first I thought this would be excruciating to compile. Then I decided that I would just do the first 100 things that came to mind, because really what I love about the movies is everything. So here’s the list.

Janine ‘Smurf’ Cody: Hey Randall, before you go on, this boy who’s currently being looked after, tell me if you agree with this, this boy who’s being looked after – he knows who you are. And you know how these things go. They’ll ask him all sorts of questions, about everything he’s ever seen or done and everyone he’s ever met. The whole shemozzle. And you’ve done some bad things, sweetie. . .haven’t you?

Movie Quote of the Day – Life As A House, 2001 (dir. Irwin Winkler)

Sam: So this whole thing. . .this whole summer, having me here, was for your sake? You selfish fuck. Having me here trying to get me to like you. . .
George: No, Sam I wasn’t trying to get you to like me. I was trying to get you to love me.
Sam: Well, congratulations. . .because you fucking pulled it off!
