New Posters For 127 Hours, Casino Jack, The King’s Speech and London Boulevard

These are all films I cannot wait to see. Especially London Boulevard, the directorial debut of William Monahan, who won an Academy Award for his adapted screenplay of 2006’s The Departed.

New Posters For The Tourist, Rabbit Hole, Morning Glory and The Way Back

I cannot wait to see all of these movies. They each have the potential to be amazing, though they’re all such different genres. They also star a plethora of people I love.

New Posters For “Made in Dagenham” and “For Colored Girls”

I love Sally Hawkins and pretty much everyone else in Nigel Cole’s Made in Dagenham and For Colored Girls is perhaps the only Tyler Perry film I’ve ever actually wanted to see.

State of the Race – Is It Too Early To Start Predicting?

Yeah, a little. If predictions made in October were right last year Meryl Streep would have walked away with her third Oscar earlier this year instead of Sandra Bullock. However, it’s still fun to throw out predictions now and see how much they change over the next few months, as more films are released and reviews come out and buzz builds and buzz dies.  There have been some really great discussions going on over at Awards Daily, and I was hoping I could get some discussions going with my readership here as well.

My predictions for the four acting categories after the cut.

New Poster For “The Fighter”

I love Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams, so I’m pretty much sold on this movie sight-unseen.

The Fighter is directed by David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees) and is due in theaters on December 10th.

New Posters For Aronofksy’s “Black Swan”

These posters. I just can’t even describe my love for these posters.

The film hit the festival circuit earlier this fall to almost universal acclaim. The film opens on December 3rd.

Posters For “Morning Glory”

I love the trailer for this film and I really hope it lives up to how great the cast list is. If it is as good as its pedigree it could be a serious contender for a Golden Globe nod for Best Comedy, as well as some acting nods. If it’s as smart as the trailer makes it look, is a hit with critics and does well at the box office, it may even have an long-shot chance for one of the ten Best Picture slots at the Oscars.

Morning Glory hits theaters on November 12th.

Poster For Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours”

Really, really digging this poster. Cannot wait to see this film.

127 Hours hits theaters on November 5th.

David Fincher’s “The Social Network” Eloquently Defines A Generation

I started college in August of 2004 at the University of California, Berkeley. At that point Facebook was only at a handful of universities, Cal being one of them. In September 2004 the first of several lawsuits were filed against Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg. At that point everyone I knew at college, which was not many people, had a Facebook profile. Actually it was still called “The Facebook” in the URL. I shared this story because having been through practically all the changes Facebook has gone through in the last six years, made watching David Fincher’s new film The Social Network like reliving college all over again. There were so many little things, Eisenberg on his LiveJournal among others, that made me have little tinges of nostalgia for a time that isn’t really even all that long ago. I was sort of amazed that Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin were able to capture the essence of my generation, an essence I have been trying to explain to my father for years now, so effortlessly while themselves being so removed from it. Really though, Fincher is so good a recreating eras it’s not all that surprising.

Minor spoilers after the cut.

Trailer For The Coen Brothers’ Remake of “True Grit”

I recently saw the original film, for which John Wayne won his only acting Oscar, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m usually pretty wary of Hollywood remakes, but I almost universally love Coen brothers films, so I’m hopeful for this. Also, I have lots of love for Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin and Roger Deakins’ cinematography looks to be as lush as ever.

You can watch the trailer here on iTunes. The film is due in theaters on Decemeber 25th.
