Movie Quote of the Day – The Stunt Man, 1980 (dir. Richard Rush)
Eli Cross: We’re shaking a finger at them, Sam, and we shouldn’t. If we’ve anything to say it’s best to slip it in while they’re all laughing and crying and jerking off at all the sex and violence. We should do something outrageous.
Sam: Like what?
Eli Cross: Like catching an authentic stench of madness behind all that good clean fun.
American Society of Cinematographers Announce Nominees
- Guillaume Schiffman, AFC (The Artist)
- Jeff Cronenweth, ASC (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)
- Robert Richardson, ASC (Hugo)
- Hoyte van Hoytema, FSF, NSC (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)
- Emmanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC (The Tree of Life)
Notably missing is Janusz Kamiński for War Horse. That film’s Oscar chances have been slipping slowly as the guilds have been revealing their nominations. Also of note, this is Robert Richardson’s 10th nomination and although he’s won two Oscars (for The Aviator and JFK), he’s yet to win the ASC award. Emmanuel Lubezki won the award in for Children of Men (though he lost the Oscar that year and I’m still bitter); I really think he’s finally gonna win his Oscar this year.
Q&As With The Cast and Director of “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”
Since Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy has finally gone into wide(r) release, a lot more people have gotten a chance to see the film (and one of my favorites from 2011). I hope if it’s playing in a theater near yo,u, you give it a watch. And if for some reason you are a voting member of the Academy and you are reading this, put Gary Oldman on your ballot for Best Actor.
Anyways, here are some great Q&As with Gary Oldman, Mark Strong and director Tomas Alfredson that are well worth your watch.
