In that series, I reviewed Gone Girl right after I saw it on Thursday night, trying to be as spoiler free as possible, since I figured many people probably hadn’t seen it yet. My friend Ryan from The Matinee asked me to be on his podcast about the film on Sunday. This was a very spoiler-filled discussion and let me really say how I felt about the film. You can listen to that podcast here. This is definitely a divisive film and one that everyone will be talking about. I didn’t like it, but I’m glad I saw it.

Female Filmmaker Friday: Valley Girl, 1983 (dir. Martha Coolidge)
The first time I saw Valley Girl, I rented it from Netflix and I watched it three times in a 24-hour period before I returned it. I then immediately bought the DVD. I have seen it countless times (including twice on the big screen!). I just love it so much. It is endlessly watchable.

Pre-codes, TV and Lady Directors: September 2014 in Films
I actually managed to watch the equivalent of a movie a day this month! (That’s probably because I failed to read a book a week). I also started watching more TV shows. I watched all of Being Mary Jane and You’re The Worst, finished up The Leftovers, continued watching The Knick and Outlander and started watching the last season of Boardwalk Empire. I also watched the pilots for Gotham (well, two episodes), black-ish, and How To Get Away With Murder. Of those three, I’ll probably only continue watching black-ish. Movie-wise, I watched a lot of pre-codes thanks to TCM, and a bunch of films directed by ladies (awww yeahhh). As always, after the cut are all the movies I watched and my five favorites.
