Last year there were films I enjoyed, but mostly I was just really underwhelmed. This year, however, it was really hard to narrow it down to fifteen films. I think part of this was living in Los Angeles and being able to see those little films that only play for a week in some small theater. I’m so grateful to be able to do that! If you are interested in all of the 2014 releases I saw this year, you can check out the full list here.
Movie Quote of the Day – Obvious Child, 2014 (dir. Gillian Robespierre)
Nellie: God damn it! You guys, we already live in a patriarchal society where a bunch of old white men in robes get to legislate our cunts. You just need to worry about yourself! And why are you looking at me like that, you little bitches?

Female Filmmaker Friday: Obvious Child, 2014 (dir. Gillian Robespierre)
This is the movie all rom-com lovers needed. This is the movie we all deserve. This is a rom-com about women, for women, by women. This movie is everything. It’s also has some important things to say about very serious, timely political issues. It’s basically a perfect film and I can’t wait to see more from writer-director Gillian Robespierre.

I wish I had the energy to write about them all! As always, after the cut is a list of all the films I watched and a few highlights. Oh, and yesterday was my birthday!
