52 Films By Women To Stream On Netflix and Amazon Prime

To help people with their 52 Films By Women challenge this year I thought I’d put together a list of some of my favorite films directed by women that are easily accessible on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Keep in mind that this is in no way all of the films directed by women available on these services, but rather a selection of films I have seen and enjoy. There are also many more films available to rent on Amazon Video as well. Think of this as a jumping off point! Also if you have not taken the 52 Films By Women pledge yet you can do so here.

Cinema Fanatic’s Favorite Fifteen Films of 2014

Last year there were films I enjoyed, but mostly I was just really underwhelmed. This year, however, it was really hard to narrow it down to fifteen films. I think part of this was living in Los Angeles and being able to see those little films that only play for a week in some small theater. I’m so grateful to be able to do that! If you are interested in all of the 2014 releases I saw this year, you can check out the full list here.

Movie Quote of the Day – Obvious Child, 2014 (dir. Gillian Robespierre)

Nellie: God damn it! You guys, we already live in a patriarchal society where a bunch of old white men in robes get to legislate our cunts. You just need to worry about yourself! And why are you looking at me like that, you little bitches?
Joey: Everything you’re saying is valid, but you are scaring my dick off.

Female Filmmaker Friday: Obvious Child, 2014 (dir. Gillian Robespierre)

This is the movie all rom-com lovers needed. This is the movie we all deserve. This is a rom-com about women, for women, by women. This movie is everything. It’s also has some important things to say about very serious, timely political issues. It’s basically a perfect film and I can’t wait to see more from writer-director Gillian Robespierre.

Women Are Best! June 2014 in Films

Another month where I didn’t manage to watch a movies a day, though I did watch all four season of Louie, in which time I could have probably watched like ten movies. I also had some person problems with my cat, Mr. Rochester, who is doing much better! And I was out-of-town for four days for a wedding. That said, I watched quite a few great films this past month. I wish I had the energy to write about them all! As always, after the cut is a list of all the films I watched and a few highlights. Oh, and yesterday was my birthday!
