Movie Quote of the Day – Star Trek: First Contact, 1996 (dir. Jonathan Frakes)

Dr. Zefram Cochrane: A group of cybernetic creatures from the future have traveled back through time to enslave the human race. . .and you’re here to stop them?
Cmdr. William Riker: That’s right.
Dr. Zefram Cochrane: Hot damn! You’re heroic. Ahahaha.

Movie Quote of the Day – Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, 1991 (dir. Nicholas Meyer)

General Chang: I can see you, Kirk.
Captain James T. Kirk: Chang.
General Chang: Can you see me? Oh, now be honest, Captain, warrior to warrior. You do prefer it this way, don’t you, as it was meant to be? No peace in our time. “Once more unto the breach, dear friends.”

Movie Quote of the Day – Star Trek, 2009 (dir. J.J. Abrams)

Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy: I may throw up on you.
James T. Kirk: I think these things are pretty safe.
Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy: Don’t pander to me, kid. One tiny crack in the hull and our blood boils in thirteen seconds. Solar flare might crop up, cook us in our seats. And wait till you’re sitting pretty with a case of Andorian shingles, see if you’re so relaxed when your eyeballs are bleeding. Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence.
James T. Kirk: Well, I hate to break this to you, but Starfleet operates in space.
Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy: Yeah. Well, I got nowhere else to go, the ex-wife took the whole damn planet in the divorce. All I got left is my bones.

Movie Quote of the Day – Star Trek II – The Wrath of Khan, 1982 (dir. Nicholas Meyer)

Khan: I’ve done far worse than kill you, Admiral. I’ve hurt you. And I wish to go on hurting you. I shall leave you as you left me, as you left her; marooned for all eternity in the center of a dead planet… buried alive! Buried alive…!
Kirk: KHAAAAAAANNNN!

15 Breakthrough Performers of 2009

2009 was a good year for cinema. So good I had to have a Top 15 instead of a Top Ten (and now, after I’ve seen a lot of the End of the Year fare, I feel like I’d need a Top Twenty). There were some newcomers who blew us away and some actors/actresses who have been kicking around Hollywood for years waiting for That Movie that makes them a household name, and for them 2009 was that year. I’m going to do this list in alphabetical order by last name.

A Salute To Soundtracks – 2009

Why I’m “Up In The Air”

Yesterday I finally saw Up In The Air, and as much I love (500) Days of Summer, Star Trek, Adventureland and Inglourious Basterds, I want it to win Best Picture.

My reasons are after the cut.

Top Fifteen Movies of 2009

Here’s my list of my Top 15 movies of the year. I really loved movies this year and there was just no way I could do just a Top Ten this year. Granted, I haven’t seen a lot of the “end of the year oscar buzz” movies, so perhaps after I get to see them later in the year this list would change, but as it stands now, this is my list.
